Introduction to Professor Yuan Liu

        Professor  Yuan Liu is the Director of Biochemistry Ph.D. Program, Florida International University and tenured associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Professor Liu research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which DNA damage and repair modulates genome and epigenome stability and their roles in development, prevention, and treatment of human cancer and neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s disease and Friedreich’s ataxia, among others. Her research interests also include DNA repair as biomarkers for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of cancer and human neurodegeneration, and drug discoveries of DNA repair inhibitors as treatment of human diseases.

       Professor Liu’s research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her work has been published in the numerous high profile journals including Nature, Molecular Cell, Nature Communications, PNAS, Nucleic Acids Research, among others. Her invention of "High throughput measurement of DNA base lesion repair capacity" (US patent, US 9809843 B1) will build up a novel genome-wide landscape of DNA repair as an innovative biomarkers of human diseases such as cancer, neurological disease, diabetes among others.  

       Professor Liu has been served as the reviewer of more than 20 mainstream journals. She also has served at the review panels of NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independent Award in 2017-2018.

       Professor  Liu was awarded the 2014 Top Scholar of Florida International University, 2016 Research Award and 2018 Service Award of College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE) of Florida International University.
